2020 Fantasy Football: Pittsburgh Steelers Outlook

Updated: Oct 16, 2020

*all rankings are as of 8/12/2020 via. Sleeper*

QB: Ben Roethlisberger (17th Season - 38 Years Old)

Ben Roethlisberger - With Ben's shoulder injury last season everybody seems to have forgotten what Big Ben is capable of doing. In 2018 he led the league in passing yards with 5,129, and I know the Steelers are not the same Steelers from 2018 but Ben is still capable of getting ball out to his WR's. However right now Ben seems to be struggling with his throwing motion, in practice it appears that Ben is short-arming his throws, meaning that he is not going through his full throwing motion. With this news in mind you should be cautious when drafting Ben, he is a solid QB2 option for your fantasy team but with this lingering injury I cannot see anybody trusting Ben to be their QB1. Ben has the 3rd easiest strength of schedule for a QB so as long as he can stay healthy Ben should be able to have a somewhat productive season.

I believe that Big Ben will finish between the QB11-20 range this year, Big Ben is currently ranked as the QB16 going into 2020, with his ADP sitting around the 130th overall pick. via. Sleeper

RB: James Conner (4th Season - 25 Years Old)

James Conner - Conner is a running back that I am avoiding in 2020, not only his there an injury concern but Conner also is high risk of getting the virus. If you don't know James Conner had cancer, he has been 4 years free now and he is living his dream, and I hate to say this but during these times that makes me very weary of drafting Conner. James Conner is very talented, we saw that in the season he had to step up for Le'Veon Bell but we still have not seen Conner play a full 16 game season. Conner is being drafted as many people's RB3 which I can trust, but any higher than the RB3 on my team I cannot take that risk. Conner is very talented but make sure you draft him with caution this season because he could end up with the virus or even get injured once again.

I believe that James Conner will finish between the RB20-30 range this year, Conner is currently ranked as the RB16 going into 2020, with his ADP sitting around the 26th overall pick. via. Sleeper

RB: Benny Snell (2nd Season - 22 Years Old)

Benny Snell - On ESPN Snell is currently slated to be the backup RB to James Conner, however news sources seem to think otherwise. Rumor has it that right now Conner and rookie RB Anthony McFarland are the only 2 RB's that will for sure be on the team. That would mean Snell is competing with Jaylen Samuels, Kerrith Whyte, Wendell Smallwood, and Trey Edmunds to get that third/fourth RB spot on the Steelers depth chart. I see Snell having no problem making the Steelers starting roster, it is just a matter of will he be able to get that RB2 spot behind James Conner. I fully expect Snell to be the backup to Conner and I think he is a must have if you draft James Conner, and if Snell ends up not being the backup to Conner then whoever is you will need to get them as a handcuff to Conner.

I believe that Benny Snell will finish between the RB60-70 range this year, Snell is currently ranked as the RB70 going into 2020, with his ADP sitting around the 193rd overall pick. via. Sleeper

WR: JuJu Smith-Schuster (4th Season – 23 Years Old)

JuJu Smith-Schuster - JuJu was, to put it lightly disappointing in 2019. JuJu was injured last season, and he was without Big Ben for all but 2 games so I guess you could say he had some... Bad JuJu last season. Sorry for the bad joke, but seriously JuJu is a WR3 for your team, people are still drafting him as a WR1 and I just do not understand why. JuJu cannot perform as a WR1 on a team, I am going to be honest I think JuJu is not talented enough to be a teams WR1. When AB left the picture in Pittsburgh everybody though JuJu was going to have a record breaking season, and well it's safe to say he finished short of expectations. If JuJu was the WR2 on Pittsburgh I would be very comfortable drafting him as my WR2, but with his current situation in this offense, and Ben still not being 100% healthy is a huge knock on JuJu's value. It is unfortunate because the Steelers WR group is set to have a fairly easy 2020 season, but I do not trust any of these starting 3 guys other than JuJu, but I would for sure need JuJu to fall down the draft boards to even consider drafting him. JuJu should be drafted as your team's WR3 and you should be confident in that, anything higher than that I cannot advise drafting him.

I believe that JuJu will finish between the WR30-40 range this year, JuJu is currently ranked as the WR11 going into 2020, with his ADP sitting around the 35th overall pick. via. Sleeper

WR: James Washington (3rd Season – 24 Years Old)

James Washington - James Washington is currently dealing with an injury in which Mike Tomlin said he is day-to-day. It is a minor undisclosed injury so he should be ready to start the season come the week 1. James Washington had a decent season last year despite his QB situation last year. With Ben back Washington should have a decent 2020 season, we saw that in 2018 with JuJu Smith-Schuster. Big Bean targets his outside WR's on 45.3% of his career throws and with Washington set to lineup opposite of JuJu that could mean big things for James Washington this season. Washington is definitely a deep sleeper in your league that could end up being a solid pick to have on your bench.

I believe that James Washington will finish between the WR60-70 range this year, Washington is currently ranked as the WR71 going into 2020, with his ADP sitting around the 179th overall pick. via. Sleeper

WR: Diontae Johnson (2nd Season – 24 Years Old)

Diontae Johnson - Diontae Johnson had a fairly decent rookie campaign considering his QB situation. Johnson had a sports hernia a few months ago but he has been back and he has been working out. Many people are targeting Diontae Johnson over James Washington which is surprising to me considering there has been no big news released about Johnson moving up the Steelers depth chart. Diontae Johnson is a guy that I am looking at this season but I feel that his ADP is way too high for my liking. If he falls down the draft boards, into the 9th round then I would consider taking him but going in the middle of the 8th round is way too early in my opinion. He is definitely worth the pick for dynasty leagues, though Ben may be calling it quits soon the Steelers should look to draft their next guy up within the next few years.

I believe that Diontae Johnson will finish between the WR50-60 range this year, Johnson is currently ranked as the WR36 going into 2020, with his ADP sitting around the 88th overall pick. via. Sleeper

WR: Chase Claypool (Rookie Season – Round 2, 49th Overall Pick - 22 Years Old)

Chase Claypool - Claypool is one of my favorite late round picks going into the 2020 season. He is for sure a sleeper among fantasy leagues considering his current ADP, but it has been said that he may work his way into the starting 3 WR's of the Steelers. He is said to bring the blocking that the great Hines Ward brought to the Steelers, so look for Claypool to be brought in a lot on running plays. Claypool is 6'4 238 lbs., which is the biggest WR on the Steelers roster, and he is just slightly smaller than Steelers new starting TE Eric Ebron. If you are in a dynasty or keeper league Claypool is definitely a guy to draft for the future, even with the Steelers having a QB change in the near future.

I believe that Chase Claypool will finish between the WR80-90 range this year, Claypool is currently ranked as the WR102 going into 2020, with his ADP sitting around the 220th overall pick. via. Sleeper

TE: Eric Ebron (7th Season - 27 Years Old)

Eric Ebron - Eric Ebron has some ankle issues last season that ended his season short, causing him to have season ending injury. I honestly do not see Eric Ebron doing anything starting TE worthy with Big Ben as his QB. Ben Targets has targeted his TE on just 18.4% of his career passes so do not look for Eric Ebron to do anything big for your fantasy team. He has the 5th easiest TE schedule for 2020 so he has potential to have a big 2020 season, it is just a matter of will Big Ben target Ebron enough to make him fantasy relevant. He is a solid TE2 for your team, by no means should you be drafting him as your TE1 for your team. Even in 2018 when he was fantasy relevant he was very touchdown dependent, Ebron will not have much success in this Steelers offense.

I believe that Eric Ebron will finish as a TE11-20 range this year, Ebron is currently ranked as the TE16 going into 2020, with his ADP sitting around the 153rd overall pick. via. Sleeper
